Heart Engagement Rings

Heart engagement rings are very popular in these days. Sometime ago a simple diamond ring was the best option available. Today jewelers have established a new fashion trend that has existed for a long time but had not been applied to engagement rings. People believed that an engagement ring had to have one rock in the center of it. Times have changed and now you can choose from many different engagement ring designs.

Heart engagement rings are made of gold or platinum. Gold was for a long time the metal used most for engagement rings . The reason for this is because it is easier to work with and it is cheaper than platinum. There was a time too when platinum was very scarce which made it extremely expensive. Back then platinum was being used in the construction of certain parts necessary for space ships. With technological advances scientists found other metal alloys to substitute platinum and it returned to the jewelry market.

Today most engagement rings are made with platinum or sometimes called white gold. Both gold and platinum are sold by weight. So heart engagement rings can be found to fit most everyone’s budget. The custom dictated that an engagement ring should be crowned with a diamond, the bigger the better. Diamonds look better on platinum than on gold, gold is better used with emeralds, rubies or other colored gems.

The heart on a heart engagement ring is not solid, it is usually a band in the shape of a heart with small diamonds set into it. These rings are valuable and sometimes expensive. The price will depend on the weight of the platinum, the weight of the diamonds and the intricacy of the design. Gold and platinum engagement rings are made by hand, they are not machine made, and diamonds are always set by hand, so they require work and this is another factor that adds to the price tag.

Buying an engagement ring is a very delicate matter, it means you are willing to live with this woman forever, if she will have you. This doesn’t mean you will spend all your money on the engagement ring just to impress her and her family. Remember you still have to buy the marriage rings and pay for the actual wedding, so don’t go off your rocker with the engagement ring.

Many designs are available that will be to your liking and hopefully hers too. When buying it just make sure you are getting what you pay for. Have the ring weighed and the diamonds tested before buying it.  Of course this does not apply to large, well known jewelry stores, this applies to small stores that are individually owned and are not recognized for their product or name. It is very easy for someone to sell you a cubic zirconium instead of a real diamond and you will not find out until for some reason you have it tested years later.
